Note from Mr. Rawls

Greetings from the Band Office!

We’re coming into our final “competition” weekend this week.  This will be our last chance to see how we directly compare to other bands.  The competition at Hanover will be fierce, and I’m looking forward to seeing how our performers can rise to the challenge.  As always, our biggest goal is to see significant improvement from week to week, entertain the audience and the judges, and push to get the best score we can regardless of where we place overall or in any individual caption.  Our scores at the Showcase were pretty good, so it’s going to take a focused effort this week to continue to improve upon them on Saturday.

Please go check out our new website at  It’s not done yet, but the important thing is that the Google Calendar is back up.  Especially be sure to check the Wednesday “Sectional” schedules for the next few weeks.

This Friday night, we will have about 30 seventh and eighth graders performing with us in the stands.  Some of their parents may accompany them as well, so if you see adults sitting near the band in the stands and you don’t know them, introduce yourself.  Make them feel welcome just like we’re trying to do with the kids.

Finally, I just wanted to say THANK YOU to all the volunteers, both parents, students, and alumni parents and students who made this year’s Showcase the best one to date.  So far, all the comments I’ve heard have been super-positive, and we’ve already begun taking notes on ways to improve it even further next year.  Our Showcase of Bands is a great way for us to raise funds, but it’s also a fantastic educational experience for all involved, and I’m excited to be a part of it.
